During this process, measurements were taken for the aluminum block with a dial caliper. Then the block was represented in a sketch to show all relevant measurements and features needed to model it with a CAD software

Using the dimensions and features illustrated in the sketch, the gasket was modeled using CAD software. 

Project 

Overview

The goal of this project is to develop basic manufacture skills while producing a gasket that allows unrestricted access to all features machined features from a given aluminum block.

Process 

The gasket CAD model was set up and transformed into machine code using GibbsCAM. The instructions were uploaded into a CNC Mill and using a 1/16"thick PVC plate, the gasket was produced.

The picture at the right shows the final product of the gasket and the aluminum block. It should be mentioned that the gasket fits onto the block without blocking any features. However, measurements regarding the chamfers could have been improved in order to correct little misalignments at the borders between the gasket and the block.
